Scene Scout - Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 19, 2026
Magic Mirror Works LLC ("we", "us", or "our") built Scene Scout as a free application for discovering local events. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use Scene Scout.
Information We Collect
Location Data
Scene Scout uses your location to find events near you. Location data is handled as follows:
- GPS location is accessed only when you grant permission and is used solely to search for nearby events
- Your coordinates are sent to our backend proxy and third-party event APIs to return location-relevant results
- We do not store your GPS coordinates on our servers
- You can use the app without GPS by entering a location manually (zip code, city name, or address)
- Saved locations (e.g., "Home", "Work") are stored locally on your device only
Community Event Submissions
If you choose to submit a community event, the following information is sent to and stored on our servers:
- Event details you provide (name, description, date, time, venue, category)
- A pseudonymous device identifier for spam prevention
Event submissions are voluntary. No account or sign-in is required.
Error and Crash Reports
We use Sentry to collect crash reports and error logs. This helps us fix bugs and improve app stability. Sentry may collect:
- Device type and OS version
- App version and build number
- Error stack traces
- General usage breadcrumbs (e.g., which screen was active)
Session replay and screen recording are completely disabled — no visual recordings of app usage are ever captured. Sentry is configured with sendDefaultPii: false. API keys are automatically redacted from all logs.
This data is used solely for error analysis and app improvement. It is never used for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any other purpose.
Data Stored on Your Device
Scene Scout stores the following locally on your device:
- Favorite events
- Saved locations
- Search preferences (radius, categories, filters, sort order)
- Cached event data for faster loading
- App settings (theme preference)
This data can be cleared by uninstalling the app.
Data Stored on Our Servers
Our backend (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) stores:
- Community event submissions — event details voluntarily submitted by users (stored in Cloudflare D1)
- Rate limiting data — temporary request counts per IP address to prevent abuse (stored in Cloudflare KV, expires automatically)
We do not store user accounts, profiles, search history, or location history on our servers.
Third-Party Services
Scene Scout aggregates events from multiple third-party APIs. Your search location and date are sent to these services through our backend proxy (your device never contacts them directly):
Each service has its own privacy policy. Our backend proxy ensures that API keys are never exposed to the client device.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Personal accounts, names, or email addresses
- Contact lists or address books
- Photos or media files
- Advertising identifiers
- Behavioral analytics or usage profiling
- Search history (searches are not logged on our servers)
- Payment information (the app is free with no in-app purchases)
Data Retention
- Community event submissions are retained for as long as the event is relevant and may be removed after the event date has passed.
- Rate limiting data expires automatically within 24 hours.
- Crash reports are retained by Sentry for 90 days.
- Local device data is retained until the app is uninstalled or data is cleared by the user.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — Request information about what data we hold related to your device
- Deletion — Request deletion of any community event submissions or other data from our servers
- Opt out of location — Use the app with manual location entry instead of GPS
- Opt out of crash reporting — Sentry can be disabled (contact us for instructions)
To exercise these rights, contact us at the email address below.
Permissions Used
- Location (when in use) — To find events near your current location. Optional — you can enter a location manually instead.
- Calendar — To add events to your device calendar when you choose to. The app can read and write calendar events only with your permission.
- Internet — To search for events, submit community events, and report errors.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
